La Bourdonnais : the area

In 1670, no structure existed to provide shelter for injured soldiers who had fought for France. Louis XIV, sensitive to the subject of what became of soliders who had served in his numerous campaigns, decided to build the Hotel des Invalides. The aim was to create a space to welcome and accommodate injured officers and soldiers.

The Grand Palais is located between the Champs-Elysées and the place de la Concorde. 
Built between 1887 and 1900, the Grand Palais, like the Petit Palais and the pont Alexandre III, was constructed for the Exposition Universelle in 1900. This was part of an urban architectural program with the objective of creating an outlook between the  Champs-Elysées and les Invalides.
